GRABBING a niche opportunity with passion and tenacity has earned Nicole Nott and her Port Adelaide-based Sitemed team a prestigious national award.
Sitemed was named last night as the winner of the start-up category of the Telstra Australian Business awards. They were joined on the podium by John Nitschke Drilling, from Hahndorf, as regional winner.
Ms Nott, an occupational therapist, identified the need for high-level medical care in remote and industrial locations and established Sitemed in 2009.
It now has 20 staff and clients, inclding the Prominent Hill copper mine, Olympic Dam and the Adelaide desalination plant.
“I think we should all have access to high-level health care,” Ms Nott said. “It’s something we’re endeavouring to do, particularly in providing care to people in remote communities.”
Ms Nott said being involved in the Telstra Business Awards had given her a chance to reflect on what was important – lessons she wanted to impart on her daughters, aged four and six.
John Nitschke Drilling – which at last month’s state awards won SA business of the year – was acknowledged for longevity and innovation. Founded in 1962, the company now has 180 staff and 17 rigs nationally.
The national Business of the Year was won by e-commerce operation BikeExchange, from Melbourne.
